Tony’s Factory, moederbedrijf van Tony’s Chocolonely heeft een nieuw keten-model ontwikkeld in de strijd tegen slavernij! Dit nieuwe model moet ervoor zorgen dat er meer geld naar de boeren gaat, dat de hachelijke werkomstandigheden verbeteren en dat kinderen weer naar school gaan. In deze pilot gaan we verder dan de huidige Fair Trade modellen (bijvoorbeeld Max Havelaar of UTZ). Als iedereen meewerkt (en dát is de grote uitdaging!), dan kan nog dit jaar het model als pilot gaan draaien, als de nieuwe cacaobonen geoogst worden. Hulde aan Oxfam Novib voor de financiering van het project!

De officiële omschrijving van het project luidt als volgt:

“The project ‘Tony in Africa’, which was launched in February 2009, is dedicated to setting up a model supply chain for West African cocoa and is aimed at both improving farmer incomes and reducing the occurrence of extremely poor labour situations, in particular child labour. Prior to the implementation of the model chain an inception phase was conducted in order (i) to make the cocoa value chain more transparent and understand the bargaining position of various links better, (ii) investigate the prevalence of child labour and (iii) define an approach that holds the best promises for improving farmer incomes”.
